So, this has been a busy week. I taught my first class yesterday, cooked an American dinner for my family, and took a Kiswahili exam today.
Let’s start with the beginning. I can’t believe I am writing this for the entire world to be privy to, but here goes. A few days ago I got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom. For those of you who don’t know, cockroaches are nocturnal. I went into the bathroom, viewed the 7 giant cockroaches in and on the toliet, and the 20 or so on the floors and walls, and decided against using the bathroom. The only problem is I really really needed to go pee! It is really hard to sleep with a full bladder. Luckily, or maybe not so luckily, the PCs gives us all a bucket. Well, you can guess how I solved my needing to go to the bathroom issue. Fast forward to yesterday. Yesterday, my family asked if I wanted to go with them to get water. I of course did, but then they told me to bring my bucket. Ooops…I had kind of procrastined the ‘pee in the bucket in my room’ issue for the past few days, by covering said bucket with a lid. Really really really bad idea. I won’t go into all the details, but just some advice, don’t leave pee in a bucket in your room for days…it ferments…I feel like most people reading this probably know this already, but I like to learn the hard way…you know, really experience life.
Anyways, getting water was another adventure. I am a very determined, stubborn person so when they asked me which bucket I would like to carry on my head back home, I of course pointed to the biggest one. No worries, I am a beast. However, I guess walking with it I was a bit wobbly, because after about 10 steps I had 4 guys lifting the bucket off my head saying no…and putting a smaller bucket on my head. As I began to walk home literally everyone and their mother came out of their houses to stare and laugh at me. One person pointed and said “look at that mzungu, take her picture”. Long story short, even with the smaller bucket I was a bit wobbly so I ended up having to take the bucket off my head and carry it. I made it all the way to the front yard, put the bucket down a little lopsidded and it spilled out everywhere. Then I went to pick it up quickly and the bottom of the bucket fell out. Yeah, I couldn’t even make this stuff up. Anyways, I was soaked, but it was a pretty hilarious experience.
Teaching was good. I had to teach an 80 minute period on separations of mixtures. I littleshopofphysiced (yeah, I made that a verb) a mixture of colored water and kerosene to show the kids an immicible solution, they really liked it.
Climbed the mountain this past weekend which was awesome. Unfortuate for my health however. During this hike I managed to aquire a boil on my armpit (which is really really gross and hurts) a spider bite the size of Africa on my knee and I hit my finger and the tip swelled up and is pussing. I am a mess. No worries though, I went to the doctor today and got some antibiotics and my spider bite drained (not a pleasant experience)…and I feel much better. Don’t worry mom. Happy and healthy🙂
Other than that I have nothing new to report. I am going on safari on saturday and sunday which I am really excited about. I miss you all dearly, and I’ll talk to you soon.
